ABOUT JAN ♥
I grew up on Long Island, NY, reading, drawing, dancing, going to the beach, and using my hands to create and build with a vast array of materials. Years later, I knew it was time to bring my creative instincts to fruition.
When I was in my fifteenth year of an enjoyable, twenty-one years as a high school English teacher, drama director, and speech coach, I nurtured my penchant for design by taking a summer course in metalsmithing at the Mendocino Art Center in northern California. There, I confirmed the desire to pursue my passion to create was alive and well.
The sensory delights of the natural world inspire me, and I thoroughly enjoy turning seemingly inflexible sheets of metal into graceful and sculpturally engaging jewelry in Argentium® sterling, pure copper, gun metal, oxidized brass, NuGold, and splashes of 14K.
Commitment to my design and lively imagination shape each part and union of every piece, while texturing, hand-engraving, repoussé, and sculpting give me unequivocal joy. When my jewelry translates that joy and makes people smile, my heart sings.
Gloriously happy in nature............................and Chicago!
